Remote onboarding and training: How HR is successfully adapting to the needs of a remote work environment

Remote onboarding

The world as a whole has undergone many changes over the past few years especially having to adjust to a new way of functioning. The work environment especially had to change the ways normal office functions were conducted to suit the remote working culture. The pandemic shook up the corporate world and many businesses had to scramble to connect their employees remotely in order to continue functioning.

Today, despite there being no restrictions, many corporates continue with the remote work or hybrid work as it has proved to be, for some, more economical in the long run. As such HR has had to depend on technology and tools to handle employee training and onboarding effectively and efficiently.

What are HR tools for remote onboarding?

HR software platforms have created a central location from which all HR related activities can be conducted and monitored. It provides onboarding tools, data maintenance, a communication portal and the ability to grant access to relevant information. Online onboarding has enabled HR personnel to carry out onboarding process  partially or completely  online so that new employees still benefit from having an official introduction into the workings and the culture of the company.

Onboarding is an important part of hiring new employees even if it is for remote work because it acclimatises the employee with company credo, ethics, culture and to their job role. It helps them feel valued and brings in a sense of belonging.

Online training

New employees require guidance, orientation and training to make a smooth transition into a company’s workforce and his/her new role. While it used to be done in-person, the new work environment has made it necessary for this to be performed partially online. HR platforms are designed to assist with training new employees providing them with a central location from which to access resources. They can be granted access to relevant information and knowledge they will need to perform successfully in their new job role.

It further facilities the ability for one on one video training and for open communication. It also ensures that they receive all company communications for the very day they join as it can be automated. They will be able to easily check the rules and regulations and company policies whilst having access to their leave and holiday calendar. This clears away a lot of the potential for miscommunications and enhance employee experience. HR too will have clear data regarding an employee’s career path and the required skill training to enable them to succeed. With both parties being able to access employee development goals even a new employee will feel more empowered and accountable from the time they join, which is enable through HR Technology tools.

As remote working is very much the norm these days, the HR platform and tools have helped HR leaders to navigate the otherwise challenging  tasks of  managing  employees working remotely from all aspects of Human Resource Management.
